In a post on Twitter, Nadda said, "A horrifying video has emerged from West Bengal, which only reminds of the cruelties that exist in theocracies. To make matters worse, TMC cadre and MLAs are justifying this act Be it Sandeshkhali, Uttar Dinajpur or many other places, Didi's West Bengal is unsafe for women."
In the video, a man is seen repeatedly hitting a woman and a man in a kangaroo court as the crowd watches silently. The incident occurred in Chopra block of North Dinajpur district.
According to reports, the man is a local Trinamool Congress worker, identified as Tejemul alias JCB and is known for giving "swift justice" to local disputes. Locals claimed that the woman was called by JCB for being in an extramarital affair.
Earlier, BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya said the accused was a close aide of Chopra, Trinamool Congress MLA Hamidul Rehman.
