Leh, BJP candidate Tashi Gyalson filed his nomination papers from Ladakh parliamentary constituency on Wednesday and said his primary focus would be to resume talks between the Center and Ladakh leadership to resolve "pending issues".

Gyalson, who is also the chief executive councilor-cum-chairman of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh, submitted his nomination papers before returning officer Santosh Sukhdev in the presence of party general secretary (organisation) Ashok Kaul and former minister Sat Sharma.

However, the absence of outgoing BJP MP and Ladakh unit president Jamyan Tsering Namgyal raised questions. Namgyal had openly questioned the BJ leadership for not giving him the ticket and had also submitted his nomination papers.

Voting in the fifth phase in Ladakh will be held on May 20 and the last date for filing nomination papers is May 3, scrutiny will be held the next day and candidates can withdraw their names till May 6.“My primary focus will be to restart the stalled talks (between the Ladakh leadership and the central government). I do not believe that the talks were derailed, but because of the Model Code of Conduct there has been no progress.

"Once the new government is formed (after the June 4 election results), I am confident of resuming talks," he told reporters here.

In March, talks between the Leh-based apex body and joint representatives of the Kargi Democratic Alliance (KDA) and the Home Ministry hit a deadlock after the Center refused to accept the demand for statehood and the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution for the Union Territory. Gave.

Gyalson said the Center has given adequate budget to LAHDC to undertake various developmental projects including construction of roads.“My concern is not development but early resolution of pending issues. I will discuss with key Ladakh leaders, both spiritual and political, to find a viable solution. I hope everyone will come forward and extend their support as the resolution of all pending issues will be achieved only under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

When asked about Namgyal's absence, he said that the MP was not well.

“He is our leader and I went to his house to seek his blessings. There are some differences and I am sure these will be resolved in the coming days and he should join the election campaign.

He further added, “When I went to meet him he wished me all the best."
