Guwahati, Leader of Opposition in Assam Assembly Debabrata Saikia on Thursday filed a complaint with the Election Commission, alleging that the BJP is trying to woo voters from Jorhat constituency through unfair means.

Saikia claimed that saffron party leaders were distributing liquor to bribe voters and trying to scare them.

"Several liquor bottles were seized from the vehicle of an honorable member of Nazira Town Committee. The vehicle is registered in the name of a lady member of the Town Committee," he said.

Saikia claimed that the vehicle with the liquor was found in the office of the executive engineer and assistant executive engineer of the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) of Nazira division.

“It seems that BJP is trying to woo voters by distributing liquor, intimidation and adopting all the tactics of unfair means as defined by the Election Commission under the Model Code of Conduct.

"I request that there should be more vigilance, more patrolling especially in the tea gardens, ex-tea garden areas and village areas of Nazira election district so that the ruling party does not influence the voters through unfair means," he said. His complaint.

Nazira is part of Jorhat Lok Sabha constituency, where voting will take place in the first phase on Friday.
