Bhubaneswar, Odisha's ruling BJD on Thursday claimed that the party will win 17 of the 21 Lok Sabha constituencies and also three-fourth of the 147 assembly seats in the upcoming elections in the state.

This statement of BJD comes after Union Home Minister Amit Shah claimed in an interview that the saffron party will get 16 seats from Odisha in the Lok Sabha elections and will also form the government in the state.

BJD spokesperson and Rajya Sabha member Sasmit Patra said the BJP has been "consistently losing" in panchayats, district councils, urban local bodies and by-elections, leaving the saffron party workers "demoralised".

“To motivate them (cadres), the central leaders of the party are issuing vague statements and baseless allegations against the BJD,” Patra said.

Saying that the people of Odisha have time and again reposed their faith in BJ, Patra said they will once again bless the Naveen Patnaik-led party by exercising their franchise in the upcoming elections also.

“BJD will not only win 17 out of 21 Lok Saha seats in Odisha but will also improve its position in the assembly elections. Patra said, with the blessings of the people, we will capture three-fourth of the seats in the assembly.

Earlier in an interview, Shah had said that BJP will get 16 seats in Odisha.

Shah said, "I am confident that this time the people of Odisha will bless the Bharatiya Janata Party under the leadership of Modi ji."

In the 2019 elections, BJD won 12 Lok Sabha seats, while BJP won eight and Congress won one seat in the state.
