New Delhi: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Rajya Sabha Speaker Jagdeep Dhankhar on Monday objected to allegations by opposition members that their microphones are switched off when they speak in the House and said the Speakers They do not have any switch or remote control to turn off the microphones of the deputies.

Birla strongly objected to some Lok Sabha members defaming the Speaker by alleging that when they rise to speak in the House, Speakers switch off their microphones.

The allegation that the president turned off the microphone was of utmost concern, the president said, adding that he wanted the House to deliberate on the issue.

"The Speaker only gives decisions/directives. The member whose name is called speaks in the House. The microphone is controlled as per the directives of the Speaker. The person sitting in the Speaker does not have a remote control or a switch for the microphones," he said he.

Birla said members of all political parties have representation in the panel of chairmen who preside over the proceedings in the absence of the president.

"This is a question of dignity of the presidency. At least those occupying the presidency should not raise such objections. (K) Suresh is also occupying the presidency. Does the president have control of the microphone?" the Speaker said, addressing the Congress veteran.

Later in the day, opposition leader Rahul Gandhi raised the issue again and asked who controls the microphone.

"My question is...who has control of the microphone?" he asked while speaking on the motion of thanks to the President's speech.

Responding to Gandhi, the spokesperson said that he did not have any button to turn off the microphone.

"This has been raised several times... you are the leader of the opposition, you also say outside Parliament that the microphone is off. I have no button to turn off the microphone. A similar setup existed before. There is no mechanism to gag the microphone. microphone.

"I have requested several times that such allegations not be leveled against the president," Birla said.

Last week, Gandhi claimed that his microphone was switched off while he was trying to raise the issue of NEET irregularities.

Dhankhar's comments on the matter in Rajya Sabha came when Leader of Opposition in the Upper House Mallikarjun Kharge was speaking on the motion and there were some interruptions.

"I strongly object to this kind of statement by Pramod Tiwari. What does he mean by 'mike band kar diya'... you just want to make these optics... it's automatic. What is this... can it?" I don't understand simple technology.

"No one has the right to close this microphone...those who spread such misconceptions, polluting Parliament, degrading our institutions," the president said.

As the uproar continued, Dhankhar added: "Mr Kharge, you know that it is mechanically controlled. When you speak, no one else's microphone will be on. It is clear, it is the concept. You know it more than me... others." I should learn from you."

During the debate on the motion, several opposition members alleged that his voice was sunk in the last Lok Sabha and said that can no longer happen as the strength of the opposition has increased in the 18th Lok Sabha.
