Sajmu Nisha Sjoman made two pleas to her rescuers. She was eager to return to her great-grandchildren as they were able to eat food only after telling stories and she wanted to cast her vote for the last time at a booth near her home in Salmanpur village.

“Some passers-by first saw her when she was lying unconscious. Golabari police station officials were informed and swung into action. Sajmu was transferred to a hospital where he was diagnosed with severe dehydration due to the extreme heat. He was given intravenous fluids until he recovered. After that, the police contacted us because WBRC has reunited hundreds of lost people with their families through its extensive network. The woman talked about being her great-grandson and said that she was a resident of Salmanpur. She also said she was eager to cast her vote,” said WBRC secretary Ambrish Nag Biswas.

Police started the search in Salmanpur, Uttar Pradesh, while WBR started in Bihar. Ultimately it was revealed that a woman matching his appearance was reported missing from Salmanpur village in Banka, Bihar. HAMs contacted his family and Samu's grandchildren cried when shown his photo. One of them immediately boarded a train for Howrah.

“Her family members informed us that since Sajmu went missing they are having trouble feeding her great-grandson. He also said that a dilapidated school building next to his house would serve as a polling booth for the last time during the Lok Sabha elections. Sajmu is aware of this and is keen to vote. Although her age in the Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC) is 89 years, she is actually 95 years old. Nag Biswas said, we are impressed by their enthusiasm to participate in the election process.
