He said that due to heavy rains in Nepal for the last four-five days, rivers like Gandak, Kosi, Bagmati, Mahananda and Parman are flowing above the danger mark in many parts of the state. Chaudhary said that the situation in West Champaran, East Champaran, Gopalganj, Madhubani, Kosi and Seemanchal areas is worrying.

"Due to heavy rains in Nepal since last four-five days, 3.65 lakh cusecs of water was released from Kosi Barrage and 4.40 lakh cusecs of water from Valmiki Nagar Gandak Barrage, which is probably the highest in the last 20 years." Chaudhary said.

He said that despite the pressure on the embankments, the situation is under control.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday conducted an aerial survey of the flood affected areas and directed the officials to provide necessary assistance. The situation is being closely monitored to ensure safety and assistance to the affected population.

According to the Water Resources Department, due to the recent heavy rains in Nepal, many rivers of the state are flowing above the danger mark. Gandak river is flowing 106 cm above the danger mark at Dumariya Ghat in Gopalganj district. Bagmati is 52 cm above the danger mark in Runnisaidpur and 89 cm above the danger mark in Beniabad in Muzaffarpur district.

Kosi river is flowing 50 cm above the danger mark at Baltara in Khagaria district. Mahananda is 50 cm above the danger mark at Taiyabpur in Kishanganj district and 96 cm above the danger mark at Dhengra Ghat in Purnia district.

Similarly, Parman river is 30 cm above the danger mark in Araria, there is a possibility of it increasing further.
