Due to excessive rainfall in the catchment areas of Nepal, the water level in rivers like Gandak, Bagmati, Kosi and Kamla Balan has increased, badly affecting North Bihar.

Sonwarsa block of West Champaran district has been badly affected, with at least 20 villages submerged in flood waters. Additionally, a part of the Valmiki Nagar Tiger Reserve in Bagaha subdivision has been submerged in floods.

Kosi river water has entered seven panchayats of Nauhatta block of Saharsa district, due to which these areas have been cut off from the main city.

Apart from these, floods are also occurring in Gopalganj and Supaul districts.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will conduct an aerial survey of the affected areas to assess the situation.

The Meteorological Department in Patna on Monday has issued an alert of heavy rain, storm and lightning in many districts including Kishanganj, Madhubani, Supaul, Araria, Sitamarhi, Shivhar, West Champaran and East Champaran.

Yellow alert of heavy rain has been issued in Sitamarhi, Darbhanga, West Champaran and Kishanganj on Tuesday.

The flood situation in Bihar has become more serious due to deadly lightning. In the last 24 hours alone, 13 people have died due to these attacks. So far in July, 33 people have died due to lightning in the state.
