Patna, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday condoled the death of eighteen people in a road accident in Uttar Pradesh's Unnao district and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh to the next of kin of each deceased from his state.

Eighteen people were killed and 19 injured when a double-decker sleeper bus collided with a milk tanker on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway early today.

"The Chief Minister is deeply saddened by the loss of lives in the accident and has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh to the family members of each deceased from Bihar," the Chief Minister's Office said in a statement.

The CMO said, he expressed his condolences to the bereaved families.

It said Kumar also directed the Resident Commissioner in New Delhi to stay in touch with the concerned authorities in Uttar Pradesh and ensure proper treatment for the people from Bihar injured in the accident.
