Washington, US President Joe Biden on Friday called on his predecessor Donald Trump to respect the justice system and not show reckless and dangerous behavior over the jury's decision that found him guilty on 34 counts of falsifying business records.

“Donald Trump was given every opportunity to defend himself… It was heard by a jury of 12 citizens, 12 Americans told people like you and the millions of Americans who serve on juries. This jury has chosen just as every jury in America has chosen. After extensive deliberations the jury returned a unanimous verdict. Donald Trump was found guilty on all 34 felony charges. Now he has been given a chance and he should appeal that decision in the same way as everyone else has. This is how the American justice system works,” Biden said.

In his first public comments since Trump was found guilty on 34 counts of falsifying business records, Biden criticized Trump for his comments on the jury verdict and claims the trial was rigged.

"It's reckless, it's dangerous, it's irresponsible for anyone to say this was rigged because they didn't like the decision," Biden told reporters at the White House.

The President said, "Our justice system must be respected and we must not allow anyone to corrupt it, it's that simple."

Earlier in New York, Trump had described the trial as unfair and rigged.

“As far as the trial is concerned, it was very unfair. You saw what happened to some of the witnesses on our side. He was literally crucified by this man who looks like an angel, but he's actually a devil,” Trump told reporters in New York.
