Rabat (Morocco): Olympic-bound Indian golfer Gaganjeet Bhullar boosted his confidence with a strong score of five-under 68 in the second round to move up to joint second place at the USD 2 million International Series in Morocco here.

Bhullar, who shot 3-under 70 in the first round on the par-73 Red Course at Royal Golf Dar es Salaam, took his total to 8-under and moved ahead of American John Catlin (66-71). Only one shot behind. ,

The 36-year-old Bhullar, whose 11 Asian Tour wins are the third most on the all-time winners list, had six birdies and one bogey.

He is tied for second place with Australia's Travis Smith (69), Japan's Genichiro Kozuma (70), New Zealand's Ben Campbell (70) and Filipino Miguel Tabuena (71).

Other Indians in the fray were Rehan Thomas (69-73) T-15, Varun Chopra (71-74) T-39 and Rashid Khan (70-75). Veer Ahlawat (70-76) was T-48. Only five Indians made the 36-hole cut.

Bhullar, who is playing his first tournament since April, had four birdies and one bogey in his first round and six birdies against one bogey in the second.

Bhullar's last Asian Tour win came in November 2023 when he won the Indonesia Masters. Earlier this year, Bhullar had won an Indian PGTI Tour event on his home tour in Chandigarh.

Shiv Kapoor (75-72) missed the cut by one shot. Honey Baisoya, Khalin Joshi, Karandeep Kochhar, Kartik Sharma, S Chikkarangappa, Saptak Talwar, SSP Chaurasia, Jeev Milkha Singh, Yuvraj Sandhu and Ajitesh Sandhu, who retired in the second round, missed the cut. or atk
