Bhogapuram (Andhra Pradesh) Union Civil Aviation Minister K Ram Mohan Naidu on Tuesday said that the Bhogapuram International Airport here will be built in 2026.

The Civil Aviation Minister, MP from Srikakulam constituency in Andhra Pradesh, visited the airport construction site in Vizianagaram district of the state and inspected its progress.

“Today I inspected the ongoing construction at Bhogapuram International (International) Airport. I supervised the work of the terminal, runway and ATC (Air Traffic Control) tower with the officials. Committed to making it a world-class airport with international standards,” the minister said in a post on social media platform X.

Stating that the airport will emerge as a growth engine for the North Andhra region, he assured that it will be "completed at a record speed". It will be completed in 2026 "at any price," he said.

The minister said that the Bhogapuram airport will generate employment for six lakh people directly and indirectly, which would also help in stopping urgent migration from North Andhra.

Ram Mohan Naidu promised to take personal responsibility for obtaining all necessary clearances for the construction of the airport and assured that he would resolve any issues regarding the civil aviation department, Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Aviation Security Bureau Civil (BCAS) and others.

“Any clearance from the Government of India or the civil aviation department will be done on top priority. Bhogapuram airport is a top priority for me. We will complete the project within a given time frame,” he said while speaking to a regional news channel.

When the airport is completed, it will serve at least 50 lakh passengers a year, more than double that of the Visakhapatnam airport, he said.

The airport will have a 3.8 kilometer runway, he added.

A maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility will also be brought to the region, he further said.

The minister said Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will visit the construction site of Bhogapuram airport on July 11 on the sidelines of the review of projects in the port city of Visakhapatnam and the northern Andhra region.
