Noida, Noida International Airport on Tuesday said Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited will lay a 35-km dedicated aviation turbine fuel (ATF) pipeline from Piala Terminal to the tank farm at Jewar airport.

The airport and BPCL have signed an agreement on February 20 to efficiently meet the airport's ATF demand while reducing carbon emissions, a statement said.

BPCL's Piala Terminal is located in Faridabad, Haryana.

Noida International Airport said the dedicated ATF pipeline will span 34 km, and extend up to 1. km within the airport premises.

It said, “After operationalization, this pipeline will operate on general/contract carry basis, thereby ensuring uninterrupted fuel transportation to the airport.,

"In line with Noida International Airport's commitment towards environmental stewardship, this common-use fuel transportation pipeline will streamline fuel recovery operations and reduce emissions by eliminating the need for tank lorry movements," it said.

BPCL Director (Marketing) Sukhmal Jain said the company has been a pioneer in setting up ATF facilities at airports and associated infrastructure in India ever since the aviation industry began in the country.

According to the statement, he also stressed BPCL's commitment to reduce carbon emissions by reducing road transportation of fuel and promoting a more sustainable future.

Airport Chief Operating Officer Kiran Jain said the collaboration is in line with their strategic vision of offering cost-efficient and sustainable solutions that are more economical to transport liquid fuel than ROA transportation.

Jain said, “We are confident that this move will reduce carbon emissions and boost your overall efficiency, contributing to a more sustainable future, which is the need of the hour.,

According to officials, the greenfield project is located along the Yamun Expressway, about 75 km from Delhi and is expected to open for commercial services after the first phase of development by the end of this year.

The first phase of the airport, which will have one runway and one terminal, will have the capacity to handle a traffic of 12 million passengers annually.

He said that upon completion of all four development phases, the airport will be able to serve 70 million passengers per year.
