Kolkata: Voting for three Lok Sabha seats in West Bengal in the second phase of parliamentary elections remained peaceful and more than 7 percent voting was recorded till 5 pm on Friday. An Election Commission official gave this information.

Voting for Darjeeling, Balurghat and Raiganj constituencies began at 7 am and continued till 6 pm, he said.

The Election Commission official said that till 5 pm, the highest turnout was 72.30 percent in Balurghat, followed by 71.87 percent in Raiganj and 71.41 percent in Darjeeling.

He said, "Today's voting was peaceful. There is no news of any untoward incident in the three parliamentary constituencies."

Forty-seven candidates, including state BJP president Sukant Majumdar, are in the fray in this phase, out of which 51.17 lakh people are eligible to exercise their franchise.

A total of 5,298 polling stations have been set up in the three constituencies.

He said there are 1,999 polling stations in Darjeeling, 1,730 in Raiganj and 1,569 in Balurghat.

A total of 272 companies, including 27,200 Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) personnel and 12,983 state police personnel, have been deployed for the elections, the official said.
