The investigation will be conducted under the direct supervision of Janak Kumar Garg, Chief Commissioner of Railway Safety (CCRS), Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR).

Although railway officials are tight-lipped about the exact cause of the accident, sources said preliminary findings suggest that a combination of human error and poor signaling caused the goods train to exceed the speed limit and lag behind the Kanchenjunga Express. . collided with.

In fact, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Katihar division of NFR, Surendra Kumar, who visited the accident site on Tuesday morning, indirectly admitted that some human and technical errors could have been behind the accident.

“Some technical errors related to the signaling system and human errors of the loco-pilot and some other staff are coming to the fore. The matter will be thoroughly investigated and ultimately the CCRS will take a decision in the matter,” he said.

Meanwhile, speaking to media persons, West Bengal Governor CV Anand Bose said the accidents could be due to technical or human error or both.

“I am sure the truth will come out. The present situation demands a united approach to deal with the crisis. Right now the overall situation is under control,” the Governor said.
