Some preliminary evidence of data deletion was found after a search operation by the CBI and software experts at the office of S Basu & Co for three consecutive days from Tuesday, sources said.

After looking at the wiped data the investigating officers decided to seize the servers and some other electronic devices of the firm and send them for forensic examination to gather more evidence.

Sources said the retrieval of OMR data is important for the central agency officials as these sheets are important evidence of irregularities in the school job recruitment case.

The West Bengal Board of Primary Education (WBBPE) has already informed the Calcutta High Court that the OMR data was destroyed on the instructions of Trinamool Congress MLA and former board president Manik Bhattacharya, adding that recovery of the data would be of utmost importance for the CBI. The CBI is taking the help of independent cyber and software experts following a direction by a single-judge bench of Justice Rajashekhar Mantha of the Calcutta High Court.

Justice Mantha also directed WBBPE to bear the entire cost of engaging the services of independent experts by the central agency.
