Kolkata: Police have arrested another close aide of local TMC leader Jayant Singh in connection with an incident in which a girl was attacked by a group inside a club in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district, the third person in the case. There is an arrest.

Barrackpore Police Commissioner CP Alok Rajoria said the latest arrest took place late Tuesday night. He said that eight people have been identified from the footage of the incident and strict action will be taken against all those involved.

Rajoria said that since the video was old, sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) were added to the case. “We have also added relevant sections of the Indian Judicial Code (BNS),” he said.

Singh, who was arrested in another case in 2023 and was out on bail with a promise not to do any further illegal activity, is now facing additional charges for violating it.

The incident came to light on Tuesday morning after a video clip, which has gone viral, showed some people holding the girl's legs and hands while others were beating her with sticks. Police started action on the basis of this video and arrested two people.

Police sources said the video, the authenticity of which has not been confirmed, is at least a few years old.

In another development, police arrested a man who was seen in a video receiving firearms training inside a closed market in Kamarhati.

In another case where a teenager was attacked with tongs, Rajoria said the police have initiated a suo motu case and are actively searching for the accused.
