Kolkata: The Special Task Force (STF) unit of the West Bengal Police on Tuesday arrested one more person for alleged links with the banned Bangladesh-based terrorist organization Shahadat-e-Al Hikma, a senior police officer said.

The official said the youth, identified as Harej Shaikh of Mollapur in Nadia district, was arrested from Howrah railway station. After being produced in the city court, he was sent on 14-day police remand.

The official said Shaikh's name cropped up during the interrogation of another computer science student, who was arrested in Paschim Bardhaman district on Saturday night.

He said, "We came to know about Haareez during the interrogation of a computer science student arrested in Paschim Bardhaman district on Saturday night. We have arrested this youth because of his alleged links with Shahadat-e-al-Hikma "

The STF officer said they were investigating whether Sheikh or the banned terrorist organization was planning any specific action.

The officer elaborated, "Commanders of the terrorist module used social media to recruit youth. Initially, they would scan profiles to identify a person's interest in Islamic fundamentalism. Then they would send audio messages. They would send them and start brainwashing them."
