Kolkata: The Special Task Force (STF) of the West Bengal Police has arrested a college student and detained five others from Panagarh area of ​​Paschim Bardhaman district for alleged links with a Bangladesh-based terrorist organisation. A senior official gave this information on Sunday.

The youth, a second-year computer science student, was picked up from his Panagarh residence late Saturday evening for his alleged links with Bangladesh's banned Islamic organization Shahadat-e-Al Hikma, he said.

Based on the inputs given by him during interrogation, STF sleuths arrested five more people from Nababghat area of ​​the same district, the officer said.

"The arrested person was trying to recruit youth from West and East Bardhaman districts for the terrorist organisation. We are trying to find out who were the people in contact with him," the STF officer said.

He said the five others included the arrested man's brother and four others who were trying to join the terrorist organisation.

The official said that the STF has seized the student's laptop and some documents including a diary.

Shahadat-e-al-Hikma is a banned Islamic terrorist organization in Bangladesh.

In 2016, the NIA had arrested a student from Kankasa area of ​​the district for alleged links with the ISI.
