Kolkata: The search operation for the body parts of slain Bangladeshi MP Anwarul Azim Anar continued on Tuesday, an official said, while West Bengal CID sleuths were interrogating two accused arrested in the case.

He said that the bones recovered from the banks of Bagjola canal on Sunday have been sent for forensic examination.

"We are hopeful that some more evidence will also be recovered. It is taking time because the crime took place about a month ago. We have identified certain places where we are searching for body parts," the officer said.,

On Sunday, the state CID recovered parts of human bones near a canal in South 24 Parganas district after interrogating Siam, who was arrested by Nepal Police and extradited to India.

Apart from this, CID officials were continuously interrogating the two accused, Mohammad Siam Hussain and Butcher, arrested in connection with the investigation, he said.

The Bangladesh MP's daughter is likely to reach Kolkata next week to take part in the DNA test in connection with the recovery of bones and meat pieces, the CID official said.

Hussain was brought to West Bengal on Saturday evening and sent to 14-day CID custody by a local court in Barasat in North 24 Parganas district.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that Akhtaruzzaman, a close friend of the MP and a US citizen, had paid around Rs 5 crore to people involved in the crime.CID officials had said that Akhtaruzzaman owned a flat in Kolkata and was probably currently in the US.

Police claimed that circumstantial evidence indicated that the Awami League leader was first strangulated to death and then his body was cut into pieces.

Efforts to trace the missing MP, who reportedly reached Kolkata on May 12 for treatment, have been underway after Gopal Biswas, a resident of North Kolkata's Baranagar and an acquaintance of the Bangladeshi politician, lodged a complaint with the local police in May. 18.

On Biswas's arrival, Anar stayed at his residence.

In his complaint, Biswas mentioned that Anar had left his Baranagar residence for a doctor's appointment on the afternoon of May 13 and was expected to be back home for dinner.However, Biswas is forced to lodge a police complaint after Anar goes missing.
