Sources said that the deployment of CAPF companies and route march will start on June 15, about a month before the voting day.

A source in the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) said, "This is the initial figure and based on ground level realities the Commission will decide whether CAPF deployment will be increased further or not."

The four assembly seats where by-elections are to be held include Bagda in North 24 Parganas district, Ranaghat-South in Nadia district, Raiganj in North Dinajpur district and Maniktala in Kolkata.

By-election in Maniktala has become necessary due to the death of former Trinamool Congress MLA Sadhan Pandey.

In the other three constituencies, former BJP MLAs, namely Vishwajit Das from Bagda, Dr Mukut Mani Adhikari from Ranaghat-South and Krishna Kalyani from Raiganj, who were elected in 2021, had to resign from the Assembly due to contesting the Lok Sabha elections. As a candidate of Trinamool Congress.

Although all three lost this time, there is a need to hold by-elections in these three assembly constituencies from where they had resigned.

As per the results of the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections, BJP is ahead in Bagda, Ranaghat-South and Raiganj, while Trinamool Congress is ahead only in Maniktala, according to CEO office data.
