Kolkata: The core committee meeting of the West Bengal BJP unit was held on Saturday, where the party's performance in the recent Lok Sabha elections and post-poll "attacks" on party workers were discussed, a party leader said.

BJP state president and Union minister Sukant Majumdar, Union minister Shantanu Thakur, party state general secretary Agnimitra Paul and former MP Locket Chatterjee attended the closed-door meeting in the presence of two central observers.

BJP won 12 Lok Sabha seats in West Bengal, while Trinamool Congress got 29 and Congress 1 seat.

The party leader said the strategy to be adopted by the party to thwart TMC's rigging and threats in the upcoming by-elections on four assembly seats was also discussed.

“Our priority is to stand with hundreds of party supporters rendered homeless by TMC terror in various parts of the state including the Diamond Harbor Lok Sabha constituency and the party will stand with its workers with all its might."The BJP has already shown that the BJP is leading in many booths in urban areas across the state, including Kolkata and South Bengal," said one of the participants in the booth-by-booth analysis meeting. Notable among those absent from the meeting were opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari and former MP Dilip Ghosh.

While Adhikari was in Cooch Behar to curry favor with party workers and defeat the party's candidate, former Union minister Nisith Pramanik, Ghosh went to Amtala in South 24 Parganas district to meet party workers, who reportedly won after the elections. A senior party leader who attended the meeting said that both Ghosh and Adhikari were supposed to come, but they could not come as they had prior schedules to meet strike party workers and supporters across the state.However, when asked about the core committee meeting on Saturday, Ghosh had said that such meetings happen occasionally.
