The highest number of complaints came from Ranaghat-Dakshin Assembly constituency in Nadia district.

Tension was rising in Payradanga area of Ranaghat-Dakshin following reports of an attack and looting of the houses of several BJP workers, including a party election agent, by masked miscreants early in the morning.

Srabanti De, a BJP election agent whose house was ransacked, told the media that around 35 miscreants came to her residence early in the morning and threatened her asking her to be home during the voting period.

“I have sought the attention of the Election Commission of India on this matter. My house was not the only one looted. Several BJP supporters in the area faced similar threats from the miscreants, all of whom are backed by the ruling Trinamool Congress. They threatened us to stay home during the election period," De said.

The Nadia district police claimed that the matter was being seriously investigated and 26 people have already been arrested in this connection. However, Trinamool Congress candidate from Ranaghat-Dakshin constituency Dr Mukut Mani Adhikari has rejected the allegations.

“I have been on the street since the morning and moving from one place to another. I am not aware of any such complaints. Elections are taking place peacefully everywhere. Rather, what I heard is that some miscreants who enjoy the support of the BJP are trying to intimidate voters in certain quarters,” Adhikari said.

Sources inside the CEO's office said the Election Commission of India (ECI) has sought a detailed report on the matter.

Meanwhile, voting took place in all four Assembly constituencies, which recorded an average voting percentage of 10.80 after the first two hours.
