Bhubaneswar, A day before the counting of votes for the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, the Odisha Cabinet on Monday recommended to Governor Raghubar Das the dissolution of the 16th Assembly.

An official said the Cabinet informed the Governor about the completion of the tenure of the BJD government and recommended dissolution of the Assembly before counting of votes.

According to the constitutional provision, after the election results are declared, the state cabinet should pass a proposal to dissolve the assembly.

The Naveen Patnaik-led government was sworn in for the fifth consecutive time on May 29, 2019. Patnaik has been the CM of Odisha since 2000.

Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Odisha were held simultaneously in four separate phases between May 13 and June 1.
