In a major development on Thursday, Shivakumar said phone tapping of revered Adichunchanagiri Mutt saint Nirmalanandanath Swamiji of the Vokkaliga community is a known case.

"There are records to prove it. We know this. It hurts to talk about it. All documents are available regarding the case," he told media persons. But, it is not appropriate to discuss this issue now. I will talk about this in the future." Asked for his reaction on the statement of Agriculture Minister N Cheluvarayaswami on this matter.

Cheluvarayaswamy, who joined the Congress from JD-S, said Nirmalanandanath Swamij's phone was tapped during Kumaraswamy's tenure as chief minister.

The development came after the NDA candidates visited Adichunchanagiri Math in Bengaluru and sought the blessings of the saint.

Opposition leader R. Ashoka claimed that the saint had blessed all the candidates and asked them to meet him again after they won. However, Shivakumar on Thursday said that all communities support Congress, not just one community.

He said, "People are smart and they will support the party which will help their livelihood. Congress is helping all communities including Vokkaligas. People will support the party which is good for them, the state and the country. They Don't look at emotions but at livelihood." said in response to a question whether Vokkaligas would support his party.

On the question of toppling the JD-S-Congress government, he said, "I have not said that Swamiji will have to answer. I had only said about Kumaraswamy that he is taking only those people to meet Swamiji who had toppled his government." Had a fall. Everyone needs it." Swamiji's blessings. Our minister Cheluvarayaswami also took some Vokkaliga leaders to Swamiji to seek blessings.”

Asked why Swamiji was being dragged into politics, Shivakumar said, "I am not politicizing the issue, I only said that Swamiji needs to be respected."

Regarding limiting the government to one community, he said, "Even if you leave caste, caste will not leave you."

After the NDA candidates met the saint, Shivakumar had said that "the Pontiff is an intelligent person and he will not get involved in politics. I am sure he will not get involved in any politics. It is a known fact that the JD-S The supremo (H.D. Deve Gowda) first divided the Vokkaliga Math.,

Allegations that Nirmalanandanath Swamiji's phone was tapped along with others during the Kumaraswamy-led coalition government had created a major controversy in the state. However, Kumaraswamy had denied any involvement.

The issue being raised as elections approach is expected to draw a sharp reaction from the community, even as Kumaraswamy is trying to woo the Vokkaliga votes, which Shivakumar had managed to sway towards his party.
