Beijing and Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina met President Xi Jinping and his Chinese counterpart Li Qiang here on Wednesday as the two countries signed 21 agreements and memorandums of understanding and announced seven more projects to further raise their strategic cooperation links.

During the meetings, both countries agreed to upgrade their "strategic partnership" to a "comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership," Bangladesh state news agency Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) reported.

China will help Bangladesh economically in four ways: providing grants, interest-free loans, concessional loans and commercial loans, the Chinese president said during the bilateral meeting with Hasina.

Zunaid Ahmed Palak, Minister of State of Bangladesh in the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology posted a photo of the two leaders' meeting on X Day and said: “Honorable President of China, HE Mr. Xi Jinping, met and held a bilateral meeting with the Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Wednesday.”

Foreign Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud briefed reporters on the outcome of the meeting between the two leaders and described it thus: "A very successful discussion was held between the two leaders in a very cordial atmosphere."

Giving details about the Li-Hasina meeting, BSS said the agreements were signed in the presence of Hasina and Li after delegation-level talks between the two countries.

Earlier, the Prime Minister of Bangladesh was given a red carpet reception and was welcomed by Prime Minister Li as he was preparing to attend the bilateral meeting.

The bilateral talks mainly addressed the Rohingya issue, business, trade, investment and bilateral relations along with various regional and international issues.

The instruments on cooperation in the economic and banking sector, trade and investment, digital economy, infrastructure development, assistance in disaster management, construction of the sixth and ninth friendship bridges between Bangladesh and China, export of agricultural products of Bangladesh and connectivity between towns. were signed, according to the BSS report.
