In a post on Twitter, the ministry urged people to choose nutritious food choices "to improve our health and contribute to the #TBfreeIndia goal".

“A balanced diet plays an important role in boosting our immune system, making you more resistant to infections like TB”.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), India has committed to eliminate TB by 2025, five years ahead of the global target of 2030.

With 2.8 million TB cases, India "represents 27 percent of the global burden".

Last month, President Draupadi Murmu had said that working together can help India become TB free.

In February, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said the government spends about Rs 3,000 crore annually on free medicines, testing and nutrition for the 25 lakh TB patients in the country.

He also informed that 10 lakh TB patients of the country are being adopted by service-minded citizens and nutritious food is also being distributed to them every month.
