According to officials, the incident happened within a few hours at Kolapalli near Gudalur when a calf of the elephant herd fell into a 30-feet high well.

Local people informed the forest department, after which a rescue operation was launched.

He said that under this, two excavators were deployed to make a path near the well to safely remove the elephant.

After being rescued, the calf went into the forest.

Forest department officials are monitoring the calf and will continue to do so until it joins its herd, an official said.
