Noida Azad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram) chief Chandra Shekhar Azad on Monday held Surajpal alias Narayan Sakar Hari alias Bhole Baba responsible for the July 2 Hathras stampede and alleged that the district police, the administration and the UP government were equally responsible for it.

The Lok Sabha MP also asked the UP government to increase the compensation to Rs 25 lakh for the families of 121 dead victims. He said that Surajpal should give him financial help of Rs 1 million on his account as he "is not a poor man".

After meeting some patients and their families at Hathras hospital, he said he appealed to doctors to provide better care and perform MRI scans on the victims considering their complaints of pain in the knees and back. stomach.

"The police, administration and government are equally responsible for this incident. They are as responsible for the incident as Baba (Surajpal) is. If Baba is gathering this level of crowd, he must also ensure proper arrangements and cannot play with the people's lives," Azad said.

"There is also a problem with the government, which made exaggerated claims, but there are no proper facilities in hospitals, such as oxygen, as was seen in some cases on the day of the stampede. Some patients faced difficulties in hospitals," he said.

Azad appealed to the government and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to ensure that the counting of victims is done correctly because, he said, some families took away the bodies after the stampede and they should also be kept within the ambit of the compensation.

"Secondly, the compensation amount announced is less and should be increased to Rs 25 lakh so that the victims' families get help," he said.

"I appeal to Baba (Surajpal), if he can hear me, that if you are really a sympathizer of these victims, because these people had faith in him, you should extend financial support of Rs 1 million to the victims.

The kind of information we are receiving reveals that Baba is not a poor man and if he cannot take care of his followers, who else will?" he asked.

Otherwise, the public should also understand that staying away from such "hypocrites and blind faith" will be good for them, the parliamentarian added.

Azad said that he does not follow any Baba, but only Baba Sahab Ambedkar and urged "my people" (Dalit community) to stay away from such preachers.

The Center and the UP government have announced Rs 2 lakh each for those killed and Rs 50,000 for those injured in the July 2 stampede.

So far, nine people, including the main organizer and fundraiser of the July 2 event, Devprakash Madhukar, have been arrested in the case, in which preacher Surajpal is not named as an accused.

Separately, a judicial commission headed by a retired High Court judge and a special investigation team headed by an additional director general of police are carrying out their probe into the episode.

Government agencies, including the police, have blamed the organizers for mismanagement of the event, saying the crowd size exceeded more than 2.50 lakh of the 80,000 allowed, despite the "god's" lawyer He claimed on Saturday "some poisonous substance." sprayed by "unknown people" caused the stampede.
