LAHORE: Former Pakistan Test all-rounder Azhar Mahmood will be the head coach of the national team on the tour of Ireland and England this month until new white-ball head coach Gary Kirsten takes charge of the team.

Kirsten, who has been signed by the Pakistan Cricket Board on a two-year contract, is not sure when he will be able to take charge of the team this month as he is busy with the Gujarat Titans franchise in the ongoing IPL.

A PCB official said that Kirsten will be available from the start of the T20 series against England if GT fails to qualify for the IPL playoffs.

Until Kirsten joins, Mahmood, who has been named as South Africa's assistant coach, and red-ball head coach Jason Gillispie will act as head coaches.

The board has appointed former Test batsman Mohammad Yousuf as the team's batting coach and Saeed Ajmal as the spin bowling coach.
