Ayodhya (UP), Ayodhya district administration has constituted a

commission to investigate alleged gross negligence in the construction of the 14-kilometer road

Ram Path, which suffered landslides at several points in just two pre-monsoon rains.

This comes a day after the Uttar Pradesh government suspended six civic agency officials for alleged gross negligence following landslides and waterlogging of the road in several sections of the newly constructed Ram Path.

"A committee of all concerned departments has been constituted which will investigate and submit its report within 15 days. This is to check the issues related to sewage chambers/sewers where depressions have occurred," the Ayodhya divisional commissioner Gaurav Dayal on Sunday.

He said the road was built to standard quality, but excessive rains caused these problems.

There is an area in the stretch where the sewer line was placed without proper construction material, he said, adding that there were potholes in 6 or 7 places.

He also said that in the last two years around 5,500 chambers have been constructed across Ayodhya, of which only eight and nine places have faced such problems due to excessive rainfall.

The district received about 30 per cent of the average rainfall of the entire rainy season in just two days, causing the depressions, he said.

The state government also issued a notice to Ahmedabad-based contractor Bhuvan Infracom Private Limited in connection with the matter.

Meanwhile, newly elected Lok Sabha MP from Faizabad Awadhesh Prasad demanded a high-level probe into the alleged irregularities in the construction of the Ram Path and the sewage lines under it.

About 15 lanes and streets along Ram Path were flooded after rains on June 23 and 25. Even houses along the road were under water.

On Saturday, Awadhesh Prasad along with Samajwadi Party district president Parasnath Yadav and his team inspected Ram Path and other areas of Ayodhya. Prasad first went to the only government hospital in Ayodhya, Shriram Hospital, where there was waterlogging, then visited the flood-affected roads and lanes of Ayodhya.

After the inspection, Prasad said, "How many people are responsible, who is responsible, everything should be made clear. The action taken against some people is not enough. There are more people involved in the irregularities in the construction of Ram Path."

"This is a big issue, the looting is being done in the name of Ram. A high-level inquiry committee should be formed and the investigation should be completed in a timely manner," Prasad had said.
