New Delhi, Water Minister Atishi on Tuesday accused Haryana of not releasing Delhi's share of water from May 1 and said the government will implement several measures, including rationalizing water supply in the national capital.

Addressing a press conference, Atishi said that many areas of Delhi are facing water shortage and appealed to the people to use water judiciously. He warned that if people do not pay attention to this appeal, then in the coming days the government may have to issue challan for excessive use of water.

He said that the Delhi government is continuously talking to Haryana on this issue and if a solution is not found in the next few days, then it can approach the Supreme Court on this matter.

"Haryana has stopped releasing Delhi's share of water. The water level in Wazirabad on May 1 was 674.5 feet. This is the average level that should be maintained. The minimum level was maintained at 674.5 feet in April, May and June last year. It was the feet,” Atishi said.

Sharing the data, the minister said that by May 8 the water level in Wazirabad had dropped to 672 feet and by May 20 it was at 671 feet and on Tuesday it further dropped to 669.8 feet.

"The borewells which earlier worked for six to seven hours are now working for 14 hours. We have also increased the number of water tankers. From today, we are reducing water supply in areas where two "Supplied once from the bar." “Rational water supply will be provided to areas suffering from water crisis.”

Atishi also appealed to the people not to wash vehicles with water pipes.

"If people do not heed this public appeal, we may have to issue challans for excessive use of water. Misuse of water is extremely irresponsible," he said.
