Chopra had recently missed the Ostrava Golden Spike meet in Czech Republic on May 28 as a precautionary measure after suffering an injury. The Haryana athlete said he felt "something" in his adductor muscles during a recent training session and decided to skip the event to avoid aggravating the problem in the Olympic year.

At the Paavo Nurmi Games on Tuesday, Chopra, the reigning Asian Games gold medalist and Diamond League final winner, will face a challenge from Germany's Max Dehning, who is also the youngest member of the prestigious 90m club and the season leader.

Apart from him, other major contenders include Grenada's Anderson Peters, Trinidad and Tobago's Keshorn Walcott and Finland's Oliver Helander. Chopra returned to Turku, where he was runner-up in 2022 with a throw of 89.30m, while local boy Helander was the winner in that edition.
