In a post on social media platform X, Fadnavis said he met Ather Energy founder Swapnil Jain, where he was informed about the "great decision".

“Leading electric scooter manufacturer, Ather Energy has chosen Maharashtra for its third manufacturing facility at Aurangabad Industrial City (AURIC). This is an investment of more than Rs 2,000 crore, which will provide employment to about 4,000 people.

The state-of-the-art plant will produce 1 million units of both vehicles and battery packs annually.

"The move underlines Maharashtra's supportive business environment and strong policies for electric vehicle manufacturing, which is in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for India's industrial growth," the Deputy Chief Minister said.

“With effective connectivity through the Samriddhi Expressway, investors are increasingly looking at the potential of this region. This significant investment will not only enhance Maharashtra’s role in the electric mobility revolution but will also contribute to increasing employment opportunities across the state,” he said.

Jain said that he is excited about investing in Maharashtra.

"With our expanding product portfolio and growing consumer demand for our products, we have decided to strategically diversify our production capabilities to an additional location that will be closer to more markets in the country," he posted on X.

“We are grateful to the Maharashtra government and its policies that promote EV manufacturing and development,” Jain said.

Founded by IIT-Madras alumni Tarun Mehta and Jain in 2013, Ather Energy launched its first electric scooter, the Ather 450, in 2018, followed by the Ather 450X in 2020.

Ather has also set up a public charging network with over 1,900 charging points in over 100 cities.
