Tata Steel Adventure Foundation (TSAF) on Thursday said 16-year-old mountaineer Kamya Karthikeyan has become the youngest Indian to climb Mount Everest from Nepal.

Kamya was accompanying her father, Commander S Karthikeyan of the Indian Navy, during the trek to Earth's highest peak, said a TSAF officer, who supported her endeavour.

The girl and her father reached a height of 8848 meters on May 20.

TSAF President Chanakya Chaudhary said in a statement, "We are incredibly proud of Kamya Karthikeyan's extraordinary achievement of climbing Mount Everest at such a young age. Her journey is a testament to her spirit of perseverance, meticulous preparation and unwavering determination. "

Kamya was the recipient of the Prime Minister's National Bal Shakti Award, an award given to children for their extraordinary achievements.
