New Delhi: To encourage inclusivity, each of Delhi's seven parliamentary constituencies will have at least one polling booth manned by a person with disability (PWD), officials said on Monday.

He said that most of the polling stations in the national capital are disabled friendly, hence necessary arrangements will be made so that the staff is not inconvenienced.

Delhi Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) P Krishnamurthy said that his team has identified polling stations in each constituency, where the entire staff will be people with disabilities.

Following the Election Commission's direction, we are working on creating a booth manned by a disabled person in each of the seven parliamentary constituencies, Krishnamurthy said, adding that there will also be pink booths and model booths.

He said, “Polling personnel from the disabled community will be deployed at these booths on the basis of their consent.,

"Initially, we will have one such booth in each constituency. Depending on the availability of manpower, we will increase the number of such booths," the CEO said.

Highlighting the various facilities so that the staff is not inconvenienced, another official said that most of the polling stations are disabled friendly.

“Since most of the polling stations are inside schools, they are handicapped friendly with ramps and washrooms. We are assessing the facilities and if we find anything lacking, we will make adequate arrangements.The aim of this move is to bring encouraging inclusivity. Election process,” the second official said.

In an interview last month, Krishnamurthy had said that 13,600 polling stations would be set up in the national capital and more than one lakh personnel would be deployed for the Lok Sabha elections.

The senior IAS officer had also said that all districts have been directed to arrange pick-and-drop facilities for the disabled and senior citizens.Voting will be held in Delhi on 25th May.
