Mumbai: Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday said the upcoming assembly elections will be a fight against betrayal and the self-respect of Maharashtra.

He was addressing party workers on the occasion of Pune political leader Vasant More, who was earlier with Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), formally joining Shiv Sena (UBT).

More contested the Lok Sabha elections from Pune seat as a Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) candidate, but was unsuccessful. BJP's Muralidhar Mohol defeated Congress candidate Ravindra Dhangekar from this seat.

Thackeray said that Pune city should now be the center of change of power in the state.

He said, the Lok Sabha elections were a fight to save the Constitution. The former Chief Minister said, “The assembly elections will be against betrayal and helplessness. This will be a fight for the self-respect of Maharashtra.

He was referring to the rebellion two years ago in the undivided Shiv Sena by party MLAs under the leadership of Eknath Shinde, who later became the chief minister.

Maharashtra Assembly elections are to be held in October this year.
