Shimla: Three of the six Congress rebels, who are now BJP candidates for the assembly bypolls in Himachal Pradesh, are leading from their respective seats, but according to the Election Commission trends, all six seats in the state are in a tight contest. The counting of votes for the assembly by-elections is being done along with the Lok Sabha elections.

In Dharamshala, former BJP minister Sudhir Sharma is leading by 297 votes, while from Kutlehar, party candidate Davinder Bhutto is leading by 891 votes.

From Barsar, BJP candidate Inder Dutt Lakhanpal is leading by 2,043 votes, and in Lahaul and Spiti assembly constituency, independent candidate and former BJP minister Ram Lal Markanda is leading by 1,540 votes.

BJP leader Rajinder Rana, who defeated former chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal in the 2017 assembly elections, is trailing by 190 votes from Sujanpur seat and BJP's Chetanya Sharma (BJP) is trailing by 1,675 votes from Gagret.

The by-elections were held on June 1 along with the elections for four Lok Sabha seats. The assembly constituencies where by-elections were held are Sujanpur, Dharamshala, Lahaul and Spiti, Badsar, Gagret and Kutlehar.

Six assembly seats fell vacant after Congress rebels were disqualified for violating the Congress whip to vote in favor of the state government during the budget.
