A private university in Guwahati, Assam, on Saturday announced admission fee waiver for eligible students from violence-hit Manipur.

Guwahati-based Royal Global University has launched 'Hope for Manipur Scholarship' focusing on children from families affected by ethnic conflict in the neighboring state, it said in a statement.

It added that the purpose of the scholarship is to support students and families affected by the current violence, ensuring that education remains uninterrupted and accessible.

This initiative is part of the university's wider campaign, "Northeast Can't Wait. Read! Be Something". It said that this campaign for Manipur has been named “Manipur cannot wait even in difficult times”.

University Chancellor AK Pansari said, "Education is a ray of hope and a path to a brighter future. Through this scholarship, we aim to provide financial relief and a supportive environment to students whose lives have been disrupted by violence."

Supporting the initiative, Manipur climate activist Lisipriya Kangujam said, "Education is a powerful tool for change."

This scholarship provides full exemption in admission fees to students from violence affected families of Manipur. They will have to provide evidence of need for financial assistance to avail the discount, the statement said.
