Guwahati: The ruling BJP and its allies Assam Gana Parishad (AGP) and United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) are leading on 10 Lok Sabha seats, while the Congress is leading on four, the Election Commission said.

BJP was ahead in eight constituencies.

Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal is leading in Dibrugarh, Rajya Sabha MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa in Kaziranga, MLA Ranjit Dutta in Tezpur, sitting MP Pradan Barua in Lakhimpur, Bijuli Kalita Medhi in Guwahati, Dilip Saikia is leading in Darrang-Udalguri, Amar Singh Tiso is leading in Diphu. . Parimal School in Silchar.

NDA constituents AGP and UPPL also maintained lead in Barpeta and Kokrajhar with Phanibhushan Choudhary and Joyanta Basumatary respectively.For the Congress, Deputy Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Gaurav Gogoi is leading in Jorhat, sitting MP Prodyut Bordoloi is leading in Nagaon, MLA Rakibul Hussain in Dhubri and Hafiz Rashid Ahmed Choudhary in Karimganj.

Prominent candidates who were trailing included AIUDF president and three-time MP Badruddin Ajmal in Dhubri and sitting BJP MP Topon Gogoi in Jorhat.

Sonowal is leading over his nearest rival joint opposition candidate Lurinjyoti Gogoi in Dibrugarh by over 2,37,521 votes, while Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi is leading by over 1,13,862 votes.

In Dhubri, Ajmal was trailing Congress candidate Rakibul Hussain by 5,04,415 votes, while AGP's Phani Bhushan Choudhary was leading his nearest rival Deep Bayan of Congress in Barpeta by 1,62,647 votes.

In two constituencies in Barak Valley, Assam minister Parimal Suklabaidya is leading over Congress's Surya Kant Sarkar by over 1,69,132 votes, while in Karimganj, sitting BJP MP Kripanath Malla, who had gained a marginal lead in the first round, Trailing again.Hafiz Rasheed Ahmed Choudhary won the election by 6,115 votes.

In the Brahmaputra North Bank constituencies of Sonitpur and Lakhimpur, BJP candidates Ranjit Dutta and Pradan Barua have taken a lead of 2,27,256 and 1,60,469 respectively over their Congress rivals. In Nagaon, Bordoloi is ahead by 1,34,543 votes.

For BJP, sitting MP Dilip Saikia is leading in Darrang-Udalguri by 1,48,654 votes, Rajya Sabha MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa is leading in Kaziranga by 1,27,387 votes, Bijuli Kalita Medhi is leading in Guwahati by 1,77,720 votes, Amar in Diphu. Singh Tiso by 77,425 votes and Joyanta Basumatary by 38,560 votes in Kokrajhar.

The counting was going on at 52 centres, where 5,823 personnel and 64 general observers were involved in the exercise.

Voting for 14 seats was held in three phases on April 19, April 26 and May 7.The NDA alliance in the state contested all 14 seats, with the BJP contesting 11 and the Congress 13. It left the Dibrugarh seat for the Assam Jatiya Parishad, while the AIUDF contested three and AAP two.

In the outgoing Lok Sabha, BJP had nine, Congress three, AIUDF and independents one seat each from the state.
