New Delhi [India], Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi on Tuesday urged the Center to send a National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) team to his flood-affected state of Assam due to heavy rains that have flooded during the last few days. .

Jorhat MP Gogoi also requested that Union Minister Jal Shakti visit the state, expressing concern over the serious situation in the state where embankments have been breached in the state and water levels have risen in the rivers. .

"I am present here but my mind and attention is on the floods in Assam. The situation is very dangerous there. You must have seen the situation in Bihar and UP, how during floods people face so many problems and that is why I want "Let the government show its concern and rush an NDRF team immediately today and Minister Jal Shakti should go there immediately," Gogoi said.

Earlier today, the Indian Air Force (IAF) said it had rescued 13 fishermen stranded on a small island in the Brahmaputra river due to rising water levels in the northern Dibrugarh region of Assam.

Personnel from the NDRF, SDRF and Inland Water Transport vessels tried to rescue the fishermen stranded on that island since Friday. However, rescue efforts failed due to rising water level and extreme currents in the Brahmaputra river, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said.

Meanwhile, the flood situation in Kaziranga National Park has become critical with rising water submerging a total of 95 forest camps out of the 233 present in the park.

Earlier, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the flood situation in the state.

He said Assam is experiencing a second wave of floods this year due to heavy rains in parts of its upper districts and neighboring Arunachal Pradesh. Sarma also detailed the relief measures taken by the state government on the issue. Prime Minister Modi, on his behalf, assured Sarma that he would have the Centre's full cooperation in his hour of crisis.

As of July 1, a total of 19 districts have been affected by floods and the death toll has risen to 35, according to data provided by the Assam Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).

Thousands of people are taking shelter in relief camps across the state. The India Meteorological Department has predicted very heavy rain in Assam for the next few days.
