Kaziranga (Assam) [India], The flood situation in Kaziranga National Park in Assam has become critical as floodwaters have inundated 95 forest camps. There are a total of 233 campsites in the park.

As a result of the floods, the authorities have evacuated six fields.

According to the park authority, the flood waters have submerged all 34 camps in the Agratoli range, 20 in the Kaziranga range, 10 in the Bagori range, 5 in the Burapahar range, 6 in the Bokakhat range and 20 in Biswanath Wildlife Division.

Sonali Ghosh, field director of Kaziranga National Park, said a wooden bridge near Moshguli camp in the Agoratoli range was washed away by floods on Monday, July 1.

"Elephant herds have started moving towards Karbi Anglong via Hati Dandi corridor. Heavy traffic diversion has been requested for NH 715 stretch under Nagaon and Golaghat districts. Section 144 of the Highway Code has also been issued. Criminal Procedure (CrPC)". Ghosh said.

She also said rescue teams and veterinary care units are ready for immediate deployment.

"Boats, barricades, raincoats, rescue materials and medicines have been procured and are already deployed. Rural boats, speed boats and mechanized boats have been strategically deployed in key areas for rapid response," Ghosh said.

Barricades have been put up on the roads to control traffic and ensure the safe passage of wildlife, Ghoash added.

"Animal sensors are installed and fully operational. Joint patrols by commando action groups and forest teams are carried out regularly. Additional personnel from neighboring divisions have been deployed to intensify patrols. Joint patrols are being carried out in the peripheral areas of the park.

Ghosh further said that a flood water measuring station has been installed with the support of the Central Water Commission (CWC). Activation of a flood monitoring cell to provide real-time updates and coordinate rescue operations, Ella Ghosh added.

"Rescue teams and veterinary care units are ready for immediate deployment. Health checks have been carried out for staff and elephants to ensure that they are fit to face the flood season," Ghosh said.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during a telephonic conversation, assured Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of the Centre's full cooperation in tackling the floods in the state.

CM Himanta said that he gave more details to PM Modi about the floods caused by heavy rains and also informed him about the relief measures being taken by the state.

"Honourable Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi Ji called me recently to inquire about the flood situation in Assam. I explained to him that Assam is experiencing a second wave of floods this year due to heavy rains in Arunachal Pradesh and part of our districts Assam superiors also informed him about the relief measures taken by the state government," Sarma said in a post on X on Monday, June 1.

"He assured me of the full cooperation of the Government of India at this time of crisis," he added.
