Apart from this, the party leadership also directed the grassroots workers to prepare for the by-elections in some assembly constituencies.

A senior AGP leader on Tuesday said the party is hopeful of winning at least one Lok Sabha seat this time in the recently concluded elections in the state.

BJP left two seats – Barpeta and Dhubri – for AGP. Veteran party leader and eight-time MLA Phani Bhushan Choudhary contested the elections from Barpeta on an AGP ticket. The party is hopeful of victory in Barpeta Lok Sabha constituency.

Meanwhile, Javed Islam contested against Badruddin Ajmal in Dhuber parliamentary constituency. Senior Congress leader and former Minister of State Rakibul Hussain also contested from that seat. AGP leaders are hopeful that the division of opposition votes in Dhubri may bring some good news for them.

The AGP held an intensive review meeting with party workers in Guwahati on Monday evening. Top party leaders took feedback from district level workers about the party's chances of winning the two Lok Sabha seats.

The senior AGP leader said, "We discussed with other party leaders about strengthening our base for the upcoming panchayat elections. Apart from this, by-elections will be held on some assembly seats. Grassroots level workers will prepare the ground for the next elections. Was given a job to do.” mentioned.

It is noteworthy that Panchayat elections were to be held in Assam in December last year. However, I got delayed due to Lok Sabha elections.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had earlier said that panchayat elections would be held in the state after the conclusion of the Lok Sabha elections.
