Guwahati (Assam) [India], A large number of devotees from across the country reached the Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati as the annual Ambubachi Mela (fair) began on Saturday.

After the commencement of Ambubachi fair, the main gate of the temple will remain closed for three days. After the retirement of Ambubachi fair, its main gate will be opened on 26th June.

The annual fair is held a day before the 3-day closure of the temple. It is believed that the goddess menstruates for these three days. This event symbolizes fertility and femininity.

On Saturday, as part of the sacred rituals, the priests chanted mantras of the goddess and the sound of the conch shell echoed in the air.

Devotees worshiped the goddess. Some people lay down on the ground as a sign of devotion. Some devotees were also seen posing for photographs wearing devotional headbands.
