Barpeta (Assam): One more person was arrested in connection with the alleged marksheet scam in Assam's Gauhati University, taking the total number of people arrested so far in the case to 10, police said on Sunday.

He said the accused was arrested from Dalgaon in Darrang district and later brought to Hauli police station.

"He is a lawyer by profession. We are currently interrogating him," a senior officer said.

Earlier, nine people, including the main accused, were arrested from several places in Guwahati, Barpeta, Dhubri and Darrang.

The alleged scam came to light when officials of Ganesh Lal Choudhary College (GLC College), Barpeta Road, detected discrepancies in the marks of an undergraduate student.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, during a press conference on Thursday, had said that six-seven cases were reported in Barpeta district and the main accused, who was in-charge of the firm responsible for the computerized marksheet system, was arrested.
