Heavy rain accompanied by storm occurred at various places including southern part of Assam since Friday night.

Sanjay Shaw, director of the Regional Meteorological Center in Guwahati, told IANS, “A cyclonic circulation over Assam and surrounding area remains at 1.5 km above mean sea level. Furthermore, the east-west trough from northwest Bihar to Nagaland now runs 0.9 km above sea level from central Uttar Pradesh to eastern Meghalaya up to North Bihar and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal.

He also mentioned that another cyclonic circulation is located over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal including East Bihar and Sikkim, which is also responsible for torrential rains over the Northeast region.

Maximum and minimum temperatures have also declined in many cities of the Northeast.

According to the Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature recorded in Guwahati on Friday was 30.6 degrees Celsius, which is two degrees less than normal. The maximum temperature in Silchar was 31.3 degrees with a drop of 1.3 degrees.

The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of thunderstorm and rain in many parts of the Northeast in the next five days.

“Thunderstorm and lightning very likely at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. The weather forecast said that there is a possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places in Assam and Meghalaya.
