“AASU President Utpal Sarma and I have discussed the matter in detail with Barua and he will be relieved from the post of general secretary. This was done to protect the image of the student organization. Baruah is expected to take leave from his duties in the upcoming state-level meeting of the body,” Bhattacharya told media persons.

The student has alleged that Barua threatened her, tortured her emotionally and physically and made false promises of marriage. There has been a lot of criticism of the allegations but AASU is dealing with the situation and also allowing Baruah to resign voluntarily.

While Barua admitted that he had previously dated the student, he claimed that he had ended the relationship six months ago. He has taken anticipatory bail in the case.

The student leader said that these are personal issues and he does not want his personal matters to be made public. He said that he will provide all the information in the court and will take appropriate action after the hearing.

“My mother is also facing mental problems. My mother's health and the girl's health both are major concerns. I am very grateful to everyone who helped me during this difficult time. Baruah said, I admit that I am in a relationship with that girl since 2021, but I also want to make it clear that we are no longer together.

“Over the past few years, many disagreements have cropped up in our relationship and with time, these disagreements have started to intensify. What the girl said is true. He also got along well with my mother. “I have kept my distance from this issue for the last six months,” he said.

The 22-year-old girl, studying in the law department at Gauhati University, allegedly even tried to kill herself by consuming antibiotics. A few days ago, he had filed a police complaint against the top leader of AASU.
