KN director Sonali Ghosh said several camps were submerged as flood waters submerged a large part of the UNESCO World Heritage site.

According to Ghosh, 173 camps out of 233 camps under three wildlife divisions, Biswanath Wildlife Division and Nagaon Wildlife Division, have been submerged in flood waters.

Meanwhile, nine other camps have been evacuated due to rising water level.

KN has five ranges, Kaziranga, Bagori, Burapahar and Bokakhat.

The largest number of camps under the Kaziranga range have been submerged.

“At least 51 camps in the Kaziranga range and 37 camps in the Bagori range have been submerged,” Ghosh said.

He further said that 65 animals have been rescued in KN.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has taken stock of the flood situation in the park.
