Astana (Kazakhstan), Brijesh Tamta and Aryan along with five other boxers advanced to the finals, ensuring Indian boxers' tally of 22 medals across various categories at the ASBC Asian Under-22 and Youth Boxing Championships 2024 here on Friday.

Women have ensured 12 out of 22 medals in the prestigious tournament.

Opening for India, Brijesh defeated Mongolia's Talaibek Iyasu in the 48kg category with an impressive scoreline of 5-0.

After similar contests, Rahul Kundu (75kg) and Aryan (92kg) defeated China's Kanjibayi Ersi and Kyrgyzstan's Alibaev Tynistan by unanimous decisions.

On the other hand, Sagar Zakhar (60 kg) forced the referee to stop the competitors (RSC won) in the final round over Kyrgyzstan's Sadirov Dilerbek.Another Aryan (51kg), Yashvardhan Singh (63.5kg) and Priyanshu (71kg) took India's winning streak forward with split decisions.

Sumit (67kg) and Sahil (80kg) finished with bronze medals after losing 0-0 against Kazakhstan's Sabirkhan Torekhan and Kyrgyzstan's Zakirov Mukhamadzhij.

On Thursday night, Dhruv Singh (80 kg), Guddi (48 kg) and Poonam (57 kg) made it to the last four stages of the under-22 category.

Preeti (54 kg), who has qualified for the Olympics on Saturday, and current youth world champion Vishwanath Suresh (48 kg) will lead India in the under-22 semi-finals along with 17 other boxers.

Muskaan (75kg) and Alfia Pathan (81kg) have got byes in their respective under-22 semi-final matches.The tournament is witnessing high-voltage action with the presence of over 390 boxers from over 24 countries, including strong boxing nations like China, India, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan fighting for medals in 25 weight categories.

The finals of the youth and under-22 categories will be played on Monday and Tuesday respectively.
