Kolkata: An Election Commission official said that 10.85 percent voting took place till 9 am on Wednesday in the by-elections on four assembly seats of West Bengal.

Among the constituencies, Raiganj recorded the highest turnout at 12.01 per cent, followed by Ranaghat South at 11.58 per cent, Bagda at 10.61 per cent and Maniktala at 9.01 per cent.

Voting started at 7 am and will continue till 6 pm.

Three constituencies – Maniktala in Kolkata, Ranaghat South, and Bagdah in North 24 Parganas – are located in the southern part of the state. The fourth constituency, Raiganj, is located in North Dinajpur district of North Bengal. There are about 10 lakh voters in the four assembly constituencies.

The Election Commission has deployed around 70 companies of security forces to protect 1,097 polling stations spread across four assembly constituencies. Counting of votes will take place on July 13.
